This month’s star chart shows the sky at 10:00 PM on the intended night
of our star party. Comet LINEAR is well placed in the WSW shining at about
mag 5. LINEAR should be visible to the naked eye about 20 deg above the
horizon. Two other comets are also located in this region of sky, but are
too dim to see with the naked eye, or even with most scopes.
Jupiter is well placed, shining at nearly mag 2, about 35 deg above the horizon. We should be able to see all of the four largest moons that are now visible. Mars is low in the WNW, just off the star chart, shining nearly as bright as Jupiter. A great many other objects are visible in the remainder of the sky, so come have a look with us. |
You can print a copy of this star chart so you can take it outside.
